Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 25, 2026

TheoryOfKindness.com (“Theory of Kindness,” “we,” “us”) is operated by Goodness, LLC, located in Texas. This policy explains what information we collect when you use our website to run a fundraiser, sell as part of one, shop, or donate, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

This policy covers Theory of Kindness only. Organizers and the schools, teams, and programs they raise money for have their own practices for any information they collect themselves, and we aren't responsible for those.

Information we collect

When you create an account (organizers and sellers)

  • Your email address and password (passwords are stored securely by our authentication provider; we never see them).
  • Fundraiser details you enter: fundraiser and organization name, goal, dates, and a payout email.
  • Pop-Up Store details: a display name, personal goal, and a short note. These are shown publicly on your store page.

When you buy or donate

  • Your name, email address, and, for orders that ship, a shipping address (including a gift recipient's name and address if you send a gift).
  • An optional supporter name and note. If you choose to show them publicly, they appear on the seller's store page; otherwise only the seller sees them.
  • Payment card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe, and are never stored on our servers.

When an organization receives payouts

  • Bank and identity details are collected and stored by Stripe to send payouts. We receive only the status of the organization's Stripe account.

When you join our waitlist

  • Your email address and, if you choose, why you're interested.

Automatically

  • Basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) in our hosting provider's server logs.
  • We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to remember your cart. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

How we use information

  • To process orders and donations, ship purchases, and send receipts and shipping updates.
  • To run fundraisers: show store pages, progress, and leaderboards; notify sellers of sales; and send organizers reminders and summaries.
  • To calculate and send payouts to organizations.
  • To email waitlist members about our launch.
  • To provide customer support.
  • To prevent and investigate fraud, keep the site secure, and meet legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.

Emails we send

  • Service emails, such as receipts, shipping updates, sale notifications to sellers, fundraiser reminders, and account and security messages. These are part of the service, so you can't opt out of them while you have an account or an open order.
  • Waitlist and news emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us.

Who we share information with

  • Sellers and organizers see supporter names and notes, order totals, and how much has been raised. They do not see buyers' email addresses, phone numbers, or shipping addresses. We don't share sellers' contact details with organizers.
  • Charity partners, if you choose to donate toys to one, receive the toys; we do not share your contact details with them.
  • Service providers who run parts of our service for us: Stripe (payments, payouts, and sales tax), Supabase (database and accounts), Resend (email), and Vercel (hosting). We pack and ship orders ourselves; shipping carriers receive the recipient's name and address to deliver them. These providers may use the information only to provide their services to us.
  • If the business changes hands. If Theory of Kindness is sold, merged, or transferred, information may be transferred to the new owner, who must continue to protect it as this policy describes.
  • For legal reasons. When required by law, court order, or other legal process, or when we believe it's necessary to prevent fraud or protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
  • Combined statistics. We may share totals that don't identify anyone, such as how much was raised across all fundraisers.

Children

Fundraisers often involve students. Seller accounts for children must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Store pages should show only a child's first name. If you enter information about a child, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, or have their parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information without consent, contact us at policy@theoryofkindness.com and we will delete it.

How long we keep information

We keep order and payout records for as long as needed for accounting, tax, and legal purposes, generally 7 years. We keep account information while your account is open. You can ask us to delete your account or waitlist signup at any time; some order records may need to be kept for the purposes above.

Where information is stored

Your information is stored and processed in the United States by us and our service providers.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask to see, correct, or delete your personal information, or get a copy of it, by emailing policy@theoryofkindness.com.
  • To protect your information, we'll confirm a request comes from you, usually by replying from the email address on your account or order, before acting on it. Someone you authorize may make a request for you if they can show your permission.
  • We'll respond within 45 days. If we can't fully honor a request (for example, records we must keep for tax purposes), we'll explain why, and you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our response.
  • We won't treat you differently for making a privacy request.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls that keep buyers' contact details visible only to our staff. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Links to other sites

Our site links to other services, such as Facebook, X, and WhatsApp when you share a store, and Stripe at checkout. Those services follow their own privacy policies, not this one.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above and notify account holders by email or on the site.
